23.11.2004 - Antique Engagement Rings
Antique engagement rings are the perfect choice for people who are fond of old world fashion. You can choose between a large selection of styles from different periods in history, such as Edwardian antique engagement rings, Art Deco, Art Neuvau, Victorian, and so forth. Antiques are generally items over one hundred years old - so the antique engagement ring you choose must be that old to be considered a genuine antique. Newer rings are generally termed as estate jewellery instead of antique. |
23.11.2004 - Buy Your Wife or Partner an Engagement Ring She Will Love
Honestly, the best way to get the perfect engagement ring is to let her pick it out herself. It has to feel good on her finger and suit her lifestyle. However, I know what you are thinking, you want to do it alone. You want to surprise her with that special gift. And you definitely do not want her to be involved with the pricing - the engagement ring you choose must definitely come from the heart. Put some thought into the engagement ring you choose - she will end up loving the ring almost as much as she loves you!
Pay you Partner Some Attention
Most women have a definite preference when it comes to the jewellery metal she wears. Have a look at her existing jewellery at take note whether she likes to wear white gold, rose gold, yellow gold or even platinum.
Also make note of the STYLE of jewellery she wears. Does your partner tend to wear more contemporary jewellery pieces or are they vintage looking. The jewellery she wears may also have that classic feel to them - some jewellery pieces never go out of style. At the end of the day, it is the pieces she wears all of the time, not the jewellery she wears only on special occasions that she is most comfortable with and what the engagement ring you buy her should be like.
Ask for her opinion
No you do not have to ask her what engagement ring she likes but take her out shopping and point out some rings and get her to tell you what she likes.
What you may want to do is say that you want to get yourself a new watch or another jewellery accessory for yourself - while you are there have a look at the engagement ring section.
No doubt you yourself or your partner may know someone that has recently become engaged. Has your partner made comments on their engagement ring? Did she like that style or not?
Also pay close attention to the gemstone you choose. Some women do not like diamonds - whatever gemstone you choose to use, it must be durable and be able to withstand constant wear. One suggestion is to look at sapphires and rubies as they are both durable and are often used in wedding rings.
Look at her hands
Elongated diamonds, such as a marquise or oval, can make short fingers look more sleek. Wide bands usually make fingers appear even shorter than they are.
Choose the Right Shape and Setting
The diamond shape of choice for most brides are the round diamonds. However your bride to be may have another preference - as mentioned before, look at her existing jewellery for clues and take her out shopping to determine what sort of ring she really likes.
Choose a ring to suit her lifestyle
Choose a ring that will suit the type of work she does. The ring you choose must be easy to clean and not snag on clothing (pointy or prongy jewellery designs will snag on clothing and people).
Find out her ring size
If your partner wear rings on her engagement finger, try to get a hold of it long enough to get it sized. You may want to enlist the help of a friend or family member. Remember to swear this person to secrecy!

16.11.2004 - How can I tell if a piece is a reproduction?
If it looks new, it probably is.
Knowledge is power. The best thing you can do to guard against reproductions passed off as genuine antiques is to learn as much as possible the type of antiques you want to collect and pay attention to small details that may indicate an "antique" piece is not quite right. |
